Last year I became the sole owner of my business, and one of the most important projects I had on my list after taking on that role was refreshing my office. Your surroundings play a big part in your mindset and how you feel. I knew that I needed to make some changes for me to be as happy and productive as possible at work.
My old office was functional and “worked,” I guess, but it just wasn’t me. It’s not like I couldn’t have done anything different with it before. I could have, but I was in a poor mindset, and I really hated coming to work. I wasn’t very inspired and just didn’t care. That way of thinking showed itself in my surroundings.
My office wasn’t a motivating space. It wasn’t inspirational or encouraging, and it was just kind of bleak. The bars were even showing on my drywall, so my office looked like a prison cell. To be honest, it felt like one, too. I wasn’t happy with the direction my business was going, and a change needed to happen. So, once I became the sole owner of my business, it was time to refresh my office and refresh my spirit.
A Better Space for Me
The first thing I wanted to do to refresh my office was to make it more functional and more like “me.” I hired someone to help me set up the way I wanted it with a creative design, and it was such a fun process! I love how it turned out.
I have new furniture and decorations that made my workspace more personal. It’s industrial-looking, but it’s filled with pictures of my children and my grandson. I have fresh flowers on my desk a lot, and they always put me in a good mood!
The flow of my office is so much better for my productivity now, too. I have easy access to my desk, and everything is where I need it to be. Now, being at work feels uncomplicated and more motivating.
Change Your Surroundings So They Inspire You
When I’m in either of my offices, I feel inspired, content, and confident. I realized just how important your surroundings can be because refreshing my office was like a total mindset transformation for me. My old space was lackluster – I felt unmotivated and stuck. My new space completely changed my outlook.
If you’re feeling stuck Iike I was, consider making a change. It doesn’t have to be a big office redo or update like I did. Try starting with something simple, like putting fresh flowers on your desk. See how you can organize your workspace to be more functional, or so it serves you better. If you can, maybe get a new desk or find a bigger office. Think about one thing that could make a difference in how you feel about being at work.
Once you make that change, you’re going to be more joyful coming to work. You’ll feel more motivated and inspired to get things done. You’ll love being in your workspace, and it will put you in a good mindset. Now, when I look around my office, I’m grateful for what I have.
A New Space and a New Mindset
Before I did my office refresh, I wasn’t in the right headspace, and I didn’t handle challenges well. Even small things that wouldn’t have otherwise bothered me easily would set me off. I couldn’t figure out why I was so irritable. Now, I know. I wasn’t happy in that working environment.
Becoming the sole owner of my business lets me make changes that allow me to be my best when I’m there. Not only is work a less chaotic and negative environment, but it looks and feels more optimistic thanks to the refresh. Not only did it help me, but everyone who works for me is happy with that change. Everybody’s content to be there. We work together better, and we’re more optimistic.
Try it Out
I want you to see what changes you can make in your workspace to feel more inspired. Whether it’s your home office or one at work, even a small update can help you become more productive and better about your workday.
